eliminated from Mideast Regional
In a game that took over 24 hours to complete due to rain delays,
the Tigers fell to Allegheny College 8-5 and were eliminated from the
NCAA Division III Championship. The Tigers took a 5-4 lead with three
runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Gators responded with three
in the fifth and one in the seventh. DePauw out-hit Allegheny 15-8, but
left 11 men on base. Dan Jones led the Tigers with three hits followed
by Steve Spasojevich, Jarrett Hunt, Javair Gillett and Scott Hamer
with two each. Mark Minaeo and Kevin Hiles each had two hits for
Allegheny. DePauw finished the season with a 26-19 record.

Tigers fall
to Ohio Wesleyan in first game of Mideast Regional
After a three hour, 10-minute rain delay prior to the start of the
Mideast Regional game with Ohio Wesleyan, the Tigers fell to the
Battling Bishops by a 6-2 score. DePauw faces Allegheny College in an
elimination game on Friday at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

Tigers
headed to Marietta to open NCAA Division III Championship
With their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship,
the DePauw baseball team is headed to the 42-team NCAA Division III
Championship and begins regional play on Thursday, May 16 at 4:30 p.m.
EDT, against
10th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University (40-10) at Marietta College's
Pioneer Park. Marietta, 41-7-1 and ranked 15th in Division III, takes
on second-ranked Allegheny College (29-9) in the 1 p.m. game on

Walker named
SCAC Coach of the Year; Four named to all-conference team
After leading the Tigers to the conference title in just his
second season at the helm, Matt Walker was named Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Four Tigers earned spots on the
all-conference team including seniors Javair Gillett and Steve
Spasojevich, junior Jarrett Hunt and sophomore Pat Creel. Earning
honorable mention were senior Dan Jones, junior Scott Hamer, sophomore
John Stephens and freshman Tyson Becker.

The Tigers topped
12th-ranked Southwestern 8-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference Championship game to win their first SCAC title and earn

battles back only to lose in the 10th inning
The Tigers came back from as much as a three-run deficit, but
visiting Marian scored five in the top of the tenth in the 10-5 win
over the Tigers. DePauw left 15 runners on base in the 10 innings.
Nick Horvath went four-for-five in the loss and Javair Gillett added
two hits.

Tigers split
doubleheader with Washington
Daniel Mack allowed just one run in the first game and the Tigers
totaled 10 hits on the way to a 4-1 win over visiting Washington (Mo.)
University. Jarrett Hunt, Scott Hamer and Dan Jones each had two hits
for the Tigers. Washington starter Kurt O'eal allowed just a first
inning run in pitching the Bears to a 6-1 win in the nightcap. Hamer
had to hits in game two.

Anderson
rallies in final two innings to defeat Tigers; Gillett breaks hit
record
Visiting Anderson scored two in the eighth and five in the ninth
to wipe out a 6-4 DePauw lead and take an 11-6 win. Javair Gillett's
fourth-inning double was his 60th of the season and broke the record
set by Adam Dill.

clinch number-one seed in SCAC East with sweep; Gillett ties hit
record
The Tigers swept Sewanee by scores of 10-0 and 6-2 to finish SCAC
East Division play at 12-4 and improve to 22-13 overall. DePauw has
earned the number one seed in the East Division for the SCAC
Championship at DePauw beginning April 26. The Tigers have earned a
bye and will begin play in the double elimination tournament on April
27. Pat Creel and Tyson Becker pitched complete game wins for the
Tigers and Javair Gillett tied the DePauw single-season record of 59
hits. Adam Dill set the mark in 1999.

Host Sewanee jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings in the first
game on the way to a 6-3 win and were ahead 5-0 after two in the
nightcap before winning 5-3. DePauw fell to 20-13 overall and 10-4 in the
SCAC.

Gillett
named SCAC Player of the Week
Tiger first baseman Javair Gillett earned SCAC Player of the Week
honors for his performance in the Tigers' 5-0 week. In those games he
hit .591 (13 for 22) including a double, triple and home run, while
scoring seven runs and knocking in nine more. He also stole a base and
walked five times. Gillett's big game was the second game against the
Engineers on Saturday. He had four hits in five at-bats with a home
run, four RBI and two runs scored.

complete weekend sweep of Rose-Hulman with 15-13 win
DePauw wrapped up its four-game series at Rose-Hulman with a 15-13 win
over the Engineers. Scott Hamer's two-run single in the top of the
ninth broke a 13-13 deadlock and gave the Tigers the victory. DePauw
led 13-5 heading into the bottom of the eighth before the Engineers

The Tigers pulled off a sweep at Rose-Hulman by scores of 22-14
and 18-10 to improve to 19-11 overall and 9-2 in the SCAC Eastern

Tigers score nine in final
three innings on way to 10-3 victory at Wabash
DePauw and Wabash battled through five scoreless innings before
Wabash grabbed a 2-1 lead after six. The Tigers then scored five in
the seventh and four in the ninth to take the 10-3 victory. Dan Jones
went five-for-five in the contest and Javair Gillett added three hits
in the 15-hit attack. Dan Sadowski returned to his hometown and tossed
the complete game win by following just seven hits.

Jason Lee pitched a one-hitter and the Tigers banged out 11 hits
in a 10-0 win at Rhodes. Jarrett Hunt, Javair Gillett and Jeff
Bardonaro each ad two hits for DePauw which improved to 15-11.

The Tigers scored in five of the first six innings to take an 11-2
lead, but host Millsaps nearly came all the way back with two each in
the seventh and eighth and four in the ninth. DePauw's 11-10 victory
lifted their record to 14-10, while Millsaps fell to 19-4. The Tigers
banged out 15 hits led by Javair Gillett's five-for-five performance.
Jeff Bardonaro added three hits followed by Scott Hamer and Dan Jones
with two each. Dave Edmonds allowed just two earned runs in seven
innings to earn his fourth win in five decisions.

Dan Sadowski allowed just one unearned run in the Tigers' 3-1 win over
Mississippi College in the first game of a doubleheader. Jarrett Hunt
and Steve Spasojevich each had two hits in the victory. DePauw held a 3-2 lead after three in the
nightcap before the Choctaws scored four in the fourth and seven in
the fifth on the way to a 14-7 win over the Tigers. DePauw committed
five errors in the loss. Javair Gillett banged out three hits, while

SCAC Pitcher of the Week
Freshman pitcher Tyson Becker was named the
Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for his
performances against Wabash and Centre. Though not earning wins in
either game, Becker allowed just two first-inning runs to Wabash and
pitched shutout ball over the last 13 innings of the week. For the
week, he threw 14 innings, allowed 10 hits, two earned runs, struck
out 10 and posted a 1.29 ERA.

The Tigers fell to 2-3 on the season with a pair of losses to
visiting Mount St. Joseph as they lost the first game 3-1 and the
nightcap 4-2. Daniel Mack and Pat Creel combined to allow just four
hits in the first game, but the Tigers left nine runners on base. In
the nightcap, Jason Geringer homered, but it wasn't enough as the
Lions jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two innings.

second and third innings on the way to a 6-0 win over DePauw. Jason
Lee pitched three innings and suffered the loss to fall to 1-1.

Tigers sweep Goshen in season-opening twinbill
DePauw won both games of a doubleheader against Goshen as they
opened the 2001 season with 9-3 and 6-5 victories. Jason Lee started
and notched the victory in game one, while Jarrett Hunt and Javair
Gillett each banged out two hits In the nightcap the Tigers scored one
run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings and
scored the game-winner in the eighth. Hunt had four hits to cap off a
7-for-8 afternoon. Gillett and Steve Spasojevich each had two hits.

slated as team to beat in SCAC Eastern Division
In a poll of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference coaches, the
Tigers were voted the preseason favorites to win the SCAC Eastern
Division. The Tigers totaled 23 points and three first-place votes,
while Oglethorpe was picked second with 21 points and two first-place
votes.
